Stars in His Eyes. Angelo's curry-powered rocket crash lands on its maiden test flight, inconveniently causing more than a little damage to that which stood below - so he and Mike find themselves well and truly grounded. How to pay for the damage and make amends? Obviously, Angelo disguises himself as singing cowboy Hank Sinatra and goes on a TV talent show to try to win the cash prize, of course. This episode, first broadcast on Thursday, 19th February, 1998, features the irrepressible Christopher Biggins in the role of the tacky television presenter Chubby Cheese. I don't think there's any children's programme in the world that can't be improved by the presence of Biggins. But all round this is a great zany edition that definitely had me laughing, and I urge you to listen carefully to the lyrics of Angelo's song - there are some very funny lines in there. The character of Hank Sinatra would return in the last ever episode of the show a couple of years later, while this particular Mike only made it to the end of this series before leaving and being replaced. Incidentally, I'm racking my brains to try to think of just which TV talent shows were big back in 1998 and therefore ripe for parody (besides Stars in Their Eyes, after which the episode is named, of course.). This is after the heyday of New Faces and Opportunity Knocks, but well before X Factor and Britain's Got Talent started dominating Saturday evenings. Anyone?
