Mike and Angelo S3E4 (1990) - FULL EPISODE

The Time Machine. Angelo's reading a history book, and neighbour Mr Pinner mentions his famous ancestor Sir Cedric de Pinner, hero of the Battle of Lewes back in 1264. One quick patent-pending invention later and we get to meet him - but how will a different century with its telephones, TVs, and fizzy drinks suit him? This episode was originally broadcast on Wednesday, 5th December, 1990. Once again, Nancy is more to the forefront than expected in this one, with Rita relegated to a phone call from the office - with associated rare shot of somewhere away from the house - and Mike not making an appearance until the final third. Angelo's time machine would later reappear on a number of occasions down the years, and the overall shape of this particular story brings to mind the series nine instalment revolving around Cleopatra (complete with unexpected love interest), and the Mozart episode from series seven. All have got their own unique angle, though, and each is enjoyable in its own right - is it too late to call for a spin-off based on this formula? John Levitt is excellent in the dual roles of both Cyril and Cedric, and it takes a special actor to deliver so many different types of uncouthness in such a short period. I love the look on his face upon his return at the end. The split-screen special effects are mostly very nearly seamless, but are let down by that one where the flashing lights are out of sync. Never mind. Interesting shot of the battle, too. By the way, I'm pretty sure we still hadn't actually seen the apparently hospitalised Mrs Pinner yet at this stage, and wouldn't do for another couple of years. *There's* a relationship that raises more questions than it provides answers. Normally I'd trim such a microscopic piece of Children's ITV continuity/promo off the end, but I love Knightmare so much that I left that tiny snippet in. Many thanks to Lee providing this recording.
