Mike and Angelo S9E6 (1997) - FULL EPISODE
From series: Mike And Angelo (Full Episodes)
Angelo and Cleopatra. Katy's landed a lead role as the Queen of ancient Egypt, so is determined to learn all she can about her - enter the ever-helpful Angelo with a source of primary research. Mike, meanwhile, has somehow stumbled into having a date arranged with Zoe, which of course carries with it all the angst and trepidation that any other teenager would experience. At least he can learn some lessons on how to treat members of the opposite sex from all that surrounds him...
This episode was originally broadcast on Thursday, 13th February, 1997, and is amazingly good fun. As I'm re-watching all the Mike and Angelos, I'm gradually picking up on the general trends as the series wore on, and it's possibly around this point that they hit the perfect blend. My opinion on that keeps wavering, admittedly, as the early ones had a more defined story arc and the pathos that went with it, plus Rita was very good as the matriarch, but Angelo was less zany; here, in the Michael Benz/Tim Whitnall/Katy Murphy years, the balance has shifted and they commit 100% to the pure, unadulterated, almost cartoon-like silliness (which is absolutely not a criticism), but still manage to inject the right level of emotion through whatever it is the characters are going through - in this case, Mike and Zoe's relationship. In fact, they managed to pack a *lot* into only 20 minutes, and it's superbly tight. This is the sort of episode I'd show an adult sceptical of children's comedy. It doesn't have to be crude or controversial to be funny.
But enough of my waffling: how about a quick quiz? Jennifer Calvert completes the Pressman-Cathro 'Big Three' by guesting in this episode of Mike and Angelo, having already appeared in Spatz and T-Bag. How many other actors and actresses can you think of who managed the same feat? Tricky, but then again, only the real fans read this far!
Many thanks to Grant for providing this recording.
